Sockets & Switches
Extra sockets, replacements, dimmers and dead-socket repairs — sized and positioned properly, not just added wherever's easiest.
What socket and switch work actually involves
Adding sockets is the most common part of it — kitchen extensions, home offices, TV points — along with replacing tired or discoloured sockets and switches, and fitting dimmer switches.
Position matters as much as the work. Sockets get sized and positioned properly for how the room is used, rather than added wherever the nearest existing cable makes it easiest.
A "dead" socket gets diagnosed rather than blindly replaced. It's usually a loose connection or a fault elsewhere on the circuit, so replacing the faceplate on its own would leave the actual cause in place.

Common questions
- Why would a socket just stop working with no obvious cause?
- Most often it's a loose connection at the socket itself or a fault further back on the same circuit — sometimes not even in the room you're standing in. We test the circuit rather than just replacing the one socket, so the same problem doesn't come back a week later.
- Can you add sockets to a room that doesn't have enough?
- Yes — this is one of the most common jobs we do. Where the sockets go depends on how you'll actually use the room, not just the nearest existing cable.
- Do dimmer switches work with any LED bulb?
- Not always — some LED bulbs need a specific type of dimmer to avoid flickering or buzzing. We match the dimmer to what you're actually running rather than fitting a standard one and hoping.
- How many sockets does a room actually need?
- More than most older houses have. A typical bedroom or living room with one or two sockets per wall usually isn't enough for modern use — we'll talk through where you actually need power before quoting, not just match what's already there.
