What circuit and panel work actually involves
This is the work that sits between a small repair and a full rewire: a dedicated circuit for a hot tub, a garden office or a workshop, a sub-board in a converted garage or attic, a heavier supply for an electric shower or a range cooker, or splitting an overloaded ring that's been extended one too many times.
Every one of those starts with the same question — what capacity is actually available at the board and at the incoming supply. We check the main fuse rating, existing load, earthing arrangement and available ways in the board before quoting, and size cable for the route and the load rather than to whatever's on the van. An outbuilding run gets armoured cable, its own local isolation and a sub-board so the building can be worked on without killing the house.
Where the existing board is full or unsuitable we'll say so up front, because bolting a new circuit onto a tired board is how you end up paying twice. Every new circuit is tested, labelled onto the circuit schedule and certified.

Common questions
- Can my board take another circuit?
- Sometimes there's a spare way and it's straightforward. Often the board is full, or full of tandem devices, and the honest answer is that a board upgrade should come first. We check and tell you which before you spend anything.
- Do I need a separate circuit for a garden office or workshop?
- Yes, in practice. Running an outbuilding off an existing socket circuit overloads it and leaves no local isolation. A dedicated armoured supply with its own small board is the right way and it isn't much more work.
- Will you need to lift floors or chase walls?
- Depends on the route. We look for the least invasive way — existing voids, attics, trunking in a garage — and show you the proposed route and any making-good before we start.
- Is a new circuit certified?
- Yes. New circuits are notifiable work and get test results and a certificate, with the board schedule updated to match.
