What appliance and heating connections actually involve
Final connection of electric cookers and ranges to a dedicated circuit sized for the load, immersion heater wiring with timer and control setup, and connecting electric heaters — panel heaters and storage heaters — to a suitable circuit rather than an overloaded general socket circuit.
Existing circuit capacity is checked before connecting a new appliance, not assumed adequate.

Common questions
- Can a new cooker just go on the existing circuit?
- Depends what's already on it and what the new cooker draws — a lot of older kitchens have a cooker circuit sized for a smaller appliance than what's being fitted now. We check the rating before connecting rather than assuming it's fine.
- What does immersion heater wiring involve?
- A dedicated circuit with the correct rating, a timer or control switch positioned where it's actually useful, and testing to confirm it's heating and switching off properly.
- Do storage heaters need anything different to normal sockets?
- Yes — storage heaters usually run on a separate circuit, sometimes on a different tariff/meter setup, and need to be sized for the heater's load rather than plugged into a general socket circuit.
- Is this covered by a periodic inspection or does it need its own check?
- New appliance connections get tested as part of the install itself. A periodic inspection is a separate, broader check of the whole installation — worth having done separately if it hasn't been done recently.
